Krankenhaus Aichach

Department for General and Visceral (abdominal) Surgery

Our team treats all benign and malignant diseases of inner organs and the entire gastrointestinal tract. We provide special expertise in thyroid and parathyroid surgery as well as colon and rectal surgery. Our therapeutic approach is directed by the guidelines of specialist societies, such as the German Society of Surgery (DGCH), the German Society of General Visceral Surgery (DGAV) and their working groups, as well as the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies (AWMF).

Whenever medically acceptable, minimally invasive surgical techniques ("keyhole surgery") are preferred because they are gentler on patients, leave less visible scars, and allow faster recovery after surgery.

For planned operations, our patients receive comprehensive advice and information on their treatment at an early stage, as well as be advised of any possible risks in their surgical consultations.

All patients with a tumour are discussed in our weekly interdisciplinary tumour conference, where the best possible individual therapy concepts are developed in cooperation with physicians from our/other departments as well as attending specialists from outside the hospital.
The treatment of the digestive organs is also carried out in close cooperation with our hospital gastroenterological clinic.

Hospital admission and course of treatment

For larger planned operations, the admission to hospital will be on the day before surgery. In contrast inpatient treatment for minor operations will start in the early morning of the operation day. The necessary preliminary examinations are carried out in advance (pre-stationary: ECG, blood sampling, X-ray examination, etc.), if not previously done during the initial examination.

The anaesthesia and pre-operation discussions also take place within this framework. Here, all outstanding issues can be clarified. On the surgery day itself, you will be looked after by your surgeon, the ward doctor and nurses - before, around and after the operation. After the operation, it is decided whether to monitor you in the intensive care unit if necessary to ensure your best possible safety. On the evening after the operation, the surgeon will inquire personally about your condition and discuss the result of the operation with you. Following this, daily visits, follow-up examinations and dressing changes will take place so that and possible complications can be avoided or detected early and be treated. You will be assisted by trained physiotherapists who can help you achieve the earliest possible mobilization. Advice on lifestyle and nutrition are also given to you before discharge by the appropriate professionals (doctors, nurses, dieticians). If necessary, the sociomedical service will take care of the consultation and initiation of follow-up treatments, short-term care, etc.
